DESCRIPTION

Jaipur State may, perhaps, be said to be one of the richest States, if not the richest, in northern India in its collection of contemporary News-letters of the Mughal days. The old and new capitals of the State have enjoyed comparative peace during the last three centuries, with the result that the State archives and officials records remained intact to a great extent. What has been lost, or has not been preserved, is due to causes not unusual in our country—the absence of record-mindeduess and of properly organised record offices.
