interest to justify their being printed for circula- tion among his family at any rate, and with this view it has been decided to reproduce them exactly as they were written, without omission or alteration of any kind. It may perhaps be considered that some of the more private and personal passages, such as that in which hespeaks of himself as ‘ the scamp of the family,’ might judiciously have been represented
