Description
In submitting these Memoirs of the Life Of an Indian officer, from Cadet to Colonel, to an indulgent public, I have endeavoured to depict my experiences in an unpretentious and accurate manner, avoiding the high colouring which sometimes accompanies works on The Gorgeous East. I trust the work may prove useful and instructive to the many young officers and others whose careers lie in India, as well as of interest to the many who have relatives and friends in that country. I hope also it may induce the general public at home to take a more practical interest in that wonderful country with its teeming millions, and when possible to visit it, now that railway facilities make it easy and comfortable to do so.
