Description

Title: PRESS LIST OF PRE-MUTINY RECORDS BANARAS CORRESPONDENCE (1776-1789) VOL.I

Description: The records included in this Press-List of Pre-Mutiny Records-Banaras Correspondence (1776-1789), comprise the earliest series available in this office. The correspondence is voluminous and the letters not generally arranged in chronological order. These defects, coupled with the lack of indexes, have always caused serious inconvenience in the speedy location of references. This Press-List has therefore been prepared with a view to save the time and energy of the research workers and others interested in the subject.

The materials covered by this Press-List throw valuable light on the various aspects of administration (e, g. revenue, judiciary, commerce, trade, industries etc.) of the Province of Banaras during the eighteenth century. My colleague, Sri Kashi Prasad Srivastava, M. A., Assistant Keeper of the Records, has with ungrudging help considerably minimized my labor in the preparation of this work.
