DESCRIPTION

Colophon portrait from the 1595-6 Khamsa of Nizami, signed by Daulat. It shows Daulat (left) and and 'Abd al-Rahim ("Amber-pen"), a scribe, working on the book.

The colophon from the Khamsa of Nizami is a note at the end of the manuscript that provides information about the scribe, the date of completion, and sometimes additional remarks about the work itself. It was a common practice in medieval Islamic manuscripts to include such colophons as a way of documenting and verifying the text. The Khamsa of Nizami is a collection of five epic poems written by the Persian poet Nizami Ganjavi in the 12th century. The work is considered a masterpiece of Persian literature and has had a significant influence on later works in the region.

MUGHAL IMAGES

The Mughal Images immediately took a much greater interest in realistic portraiture than was typical of Persian miniatures. Animals and plants were the main subject of many miniatures for albums and were more realistically depicted. To upload your images click here.
