King George V (1910-36), by a Delhi artist, 1911. George V was the first British monarch to visit India which he did as Emperor of India in 1911. During the Delhi Durbar on 11 December 1911 he announced the transfer of the capital of British India from Calcutta to a new city of Delhi.
