Watercolour of Shalimar Gardens near Delhi from 'Views by Seeta Ram from Gheen to Delhi Vol. VI' produced for Lord Moira, afterwards the Marquess of Hastings, by Sita Ram between 1814-15. Marquess of Hastings, the Governor-General of Bengal and the Commander-in-Chief (r.1813-23), was accompanied by artist Sita Ram (flourished c.1810-22) to illustrate his journey from Calcutta to Delhi between 1814-15. The Shalimar Gardens, originally called Aizzabad Bagh is located north of Delhi. and famous as the location where Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb (r.1658-1707) crowned himself, on 31st July 1658. View of the Mughal Shalimar Gardens, with the so-called Shish Mahal and a parterre and pool in front. Inscribed below: 'Gardens of Shalamar and dewan Khanah.'
