The present volume presents the events of 1857 from various perspectives: English, Indian, European and Ainerican. It provides glimpses into the actions across northern India—AWadh, Delhi, Agra, Lucknow, Calcutta, Meerut and Punjab during this crucial year. It maps the contours of dissent and symptoms of ‘rebellion’ against the Raj. It traces a path through the events from January 1857 llll the capture and execution of the last ‘rebel’ leader, latya Tope.
