DESCRIPTION

An interesting group of official letters shedding light on the relationship between a member of the Mughal Imperial Family and the King of England, and a Major in the service of the East India Company when Warren Hastings was Governor-General of India.


The letters are addressed to 'King of the Franks', a common formula for the King of England, asking for British help in the Prince retaining his position, reporting on his own move east and the help he has received from Asaf al-Dawla Yahya Khan and the Governor-General Mr. Heshtian [sic] (Hastings), and asking the King for acknowledgment of their help...
