Description
The aim of this work is to give a military appreciation of the more outstanding events of the Mutiny that broke out in the East India Company's army in May 1857 and of the campaign to suppress it which lasted until April 1859. The Mutiny has a very special place in the history of British India. On the British side, more was written about it than about any other episode in the whole period of the British connexion. Indians, during the years of nationalist agitation before freedom came in 1947, saw it as a war of independence.
