Description
In one of Lord Minto’s letters from India he says, in reference to a recent publication that, in his judgment, a biography should. not be ma le to contain all that can be told about a man, .but should rather aim at giving a judicious selection' of what is calculated to represent his actions and character.
Upon this principle the selection from his letters and papers now published has been made. It has no pretension to historical comprehensiveness. The historians of British India have treated the period of Lord Minto’s administration with a weight of authority, and in a spirit of candour, leaving nothing to be desired.
