DESCRIPTION

"Jahangir and His Vizier, I'timad al-Daula", Folio from the Shah Jahan Album Artist: Manohar (active ca. 15821624) Calligrapher: Mir 'Ali Haravi (d. ca. 1550) While Jahangir (r. 160527) and l'timad al-Daula (a title meaning "reliance of the state") greet each other formally in this painting, they had a warm personal relationship, for in 1611 l'timad al-Daulas daughter Nurjahan had married Jahangir. By virtue of this connection, her father became the chief minister of the realm, a position he retained until his death in 1622. Text and image credit: 20002016 The Metropolitan Museum of Art

MUGHAL IMAGES

The Mughal Images immediately took a much greater interest in realistic portraiture than was typical of Persian miniatures. Animals and plants were the main subject of many miniatures for albums and were more realistically depicted. To upload your images click here.
