DESCRIPTION
A calligraphy by ʻAlī Persian, ca. 1500-1550. Description: 1 single leaf : paper on card, ill. ; 416 x 300 mm Credit: Purchased by J. Pierpont Morgan (1837-1913) in 1911. Genres: Illuminated borders--16th century. Calligraphy. Paper (fiber product) Cardboard. Single leaves. Language: In Persian; Surround in Persian; Script: nastaʻlīq. nastaʻlīq. Notes: Ms. single leaf written and illuminated in Persia, perhaps in the first half of the 16th century. Text: Unidentified Persian quatrain. Decoration: illuminated border. Scribe: perhaps Mīr ʻAlī al-Ḥusainī al-Hiravī. The surround is a cutting from a manuscript, twelve hemistichs from an unidentified Persian Mas̤navī. MICROFILM holding is on record for MS M.458.1r.
