DESCRIPTION

A frond of fern Persia or the Deccan region of India, ca. 1580. Description: 1 single leaf : paper on card, ill. ; leaf: 378 x 242 mm; 173 x 86 mm Credit: Purchased by J. Pierpont Morgan (1837-1913) in 1911. Genres: Miniatures (Illuminations)--Afghanistan--Herāt--16th century. Miniatures (Illuminations)--India--Golconda--16th century. Paper (fiber product) Cardboard. Single leaves. Language: Surround in Persian; Script: nastaʻlīq. Notes: Ms. single leaf, Persian or Deccan miniature; illuminated in Herāt or in Golconda ca. 1580. The surround is a cutting from a manuscript and contains six lines of a qasida in "-ab" by ʻUrfī. MICROFILM holding is on record for MS M.458.1r. Provenance: Ḥusain Khān Shāmlū (d. 1618) and possibly his son, Ḥasan Khān; purchased by J. Pierpont Morgan (1837-1913) from Charles Hercules Read in 1911; J.P. Morgan (1867-1943).
