Part of a portfolio of photographs taken in 1858 by Major Robert Christopher Tytler and his wife, Harriet, at Delhi, Lucknow and Cawnpore in the aftermath of the Uprising of 1857.The Uprising of 1857-58 in Northern India inspired a number of photographers to depict the aftermath of this momentous event. Robert and Harriet Tytler took over 500 paper negatives in India, particularly of the principal sites of the Mutiny and were present during the siege of Delhi.
