A view of the entrance courtyard and east facade to the Kalan Masjid with its flight of steps to the entrance gateway. Sita Ram exaggerates the vertiginous nature of the approach in accordance with picturesque conventions. The Kalan or Kali Masjid was built in 1387 by the son of Khan-i-Jahan Junan Shah, prime minister of Firoz Shah Tughluq (1351-88). Watercolor, 38 x 53.7 cm. British Library, London, Add.Or.4817
