DESCRIPTION

Shahjahan riding past the palace, by a Delhi artist, c.1815. Trying to resuscitate past Mughal glories in the Delhi of Akabr II, new illustrated manuscripts of the histories of Shahjahan was produced. This painting is from another manuscript and shows, immediately after the Diwan-I-Am, Shahjahan riding on the opposite bank of the Yamuna past the imperial palace, all white marble and gilt on it's red sandstone wall. Note the imperial pigions flying above the palace. The is one of the earliest depictions of the palace in a picturesque landscape setting, predating Ghulam Ali Khan's further explorations of this theme.

MUGHAL IMAGES

The Mughal Images immediately took a much greater interest in realistic portraiture than was typical of Persian miniatures. Animals and plants were the main subject of many miniatures for albums and were more realistically depicted. To upload your images click here.
