THE DELHI MADRASSA OF GHAZIUDDIN KHAN, by Sita Ram, 1815. From the albums of drawings done by Sita Ram for Lord Hastings 1814-15. Ghaziuddin Khan (d. 1710) was an important noble during the reigns of Aurangzeb (1658-1707) and his successor Bahadur Shah I (1707-12). He founded a madrassa just outside the Ajmeri Gate of the city. The double-storeyed buildings are constructed on two sides of a large courtvard with a central fountain which is entered through an imposing red sandstone gateway, while a mosque and the founder's tomb closes off the western side.
