DESCRIPTION

The Diwan-I-Am, by Mirza Shah Rukh Beg, 1847. This is a woodcut print from Syed Ahmed Khan's Asar al-Sanadid, an account in Urdu of the history of Delhi and of it's monuments, illustrated with nearly 130 woodcuts by the artist Faiz Ali Khan and Mirza Shah Rukh Beg, and published in Delhi 1847. This view of the Diwan-I-Am gives a very good idea of changes to Shahjahan's architecture. Looming over the back of the great hall is the palace built within the zenana, called the palace of the Heir Apparent (Mirza Vali Ahad). On the left can be seen another towered structure erected in the courtyard in front of the Diwan-I-Khas. This can also be seen in Mazhar Ali Khan's panorama and appears to be a pigeon-house for the emperor's favourite pigeons.

MUGHAL IMAGES

The Mughal Images immediately took a much greater interest in realistic portraiture than was typical of Persian miniatures. Animals and plants were the main subject of many miniatures for albums and were more realistically depicted. To upload your images click here.
