DESCRIPTION

Fig. 9: ELEVATION OF THE EAST FACE OF THE RED FORT, by a Faizabad draughtsman, 1774. Inscribed above: Palais du Grand Mogol à Dely du coté du Gemma. This elevation showing the east face of the palace in the Red Fort shows the limitations of Gentil's Faizabad artist. The Musamman Burj is not attached to the Khwabgah while the space between that tower and the Shah Burj has been filled with an erroneous imitation of the arrangements of the Khas Mahal at Agra. Pen-and-ink and watercolour, 46 x 223 cm. Bibliothèque Nationale de France, Paris, Estampes Od 63/3.
