The magazine for munitions occupied the southern part of the former mansion of Dara Shikoh on the river north of the Red Fort. The magazine itself was blown up by its defenders in 1857 but the walls survived to be photographed. They have been fortified in an extraordinarily mediaeval European way reminiscent of an Italian fortress. At the south end is an old Christian cemetery. British Library, London, Photo 193/(3).
