DESCRIPTION

The view is taken from the Chowk, the open square at the beginning of the Faiz Bazaar. Sadatallah Khan was one of Shahjahan's ministers and occupied the haveli adjacent to this chowk. The mosque is possibly the now vanished mosque of Roshanuddaula. The large procession heading towards the Delhi Gate suggests that this is of the emperor on his way to his country palace at the Qutb Minar. We admire some of the lovely details in this fascinating painting: note the kite flying from the rooftops; the dancing girl with musicians in the foreground; the water channel running down the centre of the street, Ink and watercolour, 27.6 x 43.3 cm.
