Kunal Kapoor will soon be seen as the Mughal emperor Babur in the upcoming web series The Empire. Produced by Disney+Hotstar and Nikkhil Advani’s Emmay Entertainment, the historical series also stars Shabana Azmi, Dino Morea, Drashti Dhami and Aditya Seal in pivotal roles. KUNAL KAPOOR PLAYS THE EMPEROR IN THE EMPIRE Disney+Hotstar announced an extensive slate of upcoming releases on Tuesday, July 27, which included Nikkhil Advani's The Empire. Today, the OTT platform shared the teaser of the series featuring Kunal Kapoor as the Mughal emperor Babur. "An emperor's quest for the throne is about to begin. Hotstar Specials The Empire. Kunal Kapoor will be seen as Babur, the founder of the Mughal Empire. In the teaser, he looks fierce as the emperor. "It has been an interesting experience. I don't think I have been part of something that has been mounted on this big a scale. It is going to be an interesting experience for the audience because, primarily, it is a visual spectacle, the kind of which you have not seen on any platform in this country," Kapoor said in a virtual press conference for the unveiling of Disney+Hotstar's new slate. ABOUT THE EMPIRE The series is based on Alex Rutherford's historical fiction novel Empire of the Moghul, which has six volumes. The first season will trace Babur's journey and the beginning of the Mughal Empire in India. The Empire, which was earlier named Moghul, is touted to be one of the grandest shows ever created in India.
