Description

Unani Medicine is a form of traditional medicine that has its roots in the ancient Greek system of medicine. It was introduced to India by the Arab and Persian traders and scholars in the 12th century. The term "Unani" means "Greek" in Arabic, and the system is also known as "Greco-Arabic" medicine. Delhi, being a cultural and intellectual center of India, played an important role in the development and spread of Unani Medicine in India. 17th Century: The Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb (1658-1707) was a patron of Unani Medicine and encouraged its practice in Delhi. He established the first Unani hospital in Delhi, known as the Darul Shifa, which had a separate department for the treatment of women.
