One of the prominent maritime groups during this period was the Siddis, who were of African descent and served as skilled sailors, traders, and naval commanders in the Mughal fleet. They were highly respected for their navigational expertise and played a crucial role in protecting the Mughal Empire's maritime interests.

Another noteworthy figure from this era is Malik Ambar, who rose from slavery to become a powerful regent in the Deccan region. Malik Ambar's administration recognized the significance of maritime trade and actively engaged in maritime activities, including building and maintaining a strong fleet to safeguard the trade routes along the western coast of India.
