The Revolt of 1857 was the first major challenge to the East India Company
and literally put comma to the colonial ambitions of its masters in England. During the Revolt,which took place in many parts of Central, Northern, and Eastern part of India, different sections of society joined the rebel sepoys of the East India Company in what has been described by some scholars as First War of Indian Independence.
